Team Associated T-Maxx Shock Kit Review

The Team Associated (AE) Shock Kit is a very cost effective hop-up for your T/E - Maxx. The kit includes aluminum shock bodies, shock rods, all the small hardware you will need, 3 sets of pistons, 30 wt. shock oil, and plenty of preload spacers. First off, I suggest you throw out the 30 wt. shock oil. It's way too soft for a Maxx. Go to the LHS and get some good 60 - 80 wt. shock oil like Trinity's Kinwald oil. The only reason to go with a lighter oil is if you plan on using your Maxx strictly for On-Road racing. The shock bodies are obviously smaller in diameter than other Maxx shocks, including the stock shock bodies. Don't let this detour you away from the AE shock kit. With proper set-up, this shock kit is just as good as any other, and cheaper too! With your aftermarket shock oil in hand, begin building your shocks. For the rest of the process, I built my kit following the suggestions per the included instructions. You may hear many people put down the AE shock kit because the springs are too soft. Well, the springs are softer than the stock Maxx springs. But, even with the suggested amount of preload, these shocks react great. They are superb for a Maxx with a standard chassis. For you big block people with an extended chassis, the Trinity heavy black springs are a popular choice, especially in the rear where the engine sits. If you still think the AE blue springs are too soft and want some different springs, you can use the standard sized Maxx springs. Just be sure to use the stock sized upper and lower spring retainers. Also, to add to the AE shock kit, if you are a big jumper, I suggest getting the AE aluminum caps for this shock kit. For the money, I don't think you can find a better shock kit. Especially for you stock people that are looking for those first few cost effective hop-ups. My T-Maxx is .21 powered, and I still run the AE shock kit and I love it.
